Prior to moving to Grass Valley, John taught his yearlong course in Santa Cruz, California from 1997 to 2000. His commitment to teaching manual therapy has allowed him to continue with his mentoring of fellows within a few of the fellowship programs in manual therapy. He has mentored students from the Evidence in Motion fellowship program since January 2011 to the now. John also mentors and is on faculty for the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship, Mentorship, and Advanced Skills Programs. John completed his DPT program in the summer of 2012 through Evidence In Motion. He feels the need to stay up to date with the changes in evidence-based practice is critical. In addition to achieving his Doctorate in PT last year he is currently working towards his Comprehensive Pilates teacher training from Polestar Pilates. He will finish this rigorous program in August 2013. He was then awarded the certification of Pilates Method Alliance – Certified Pilates Instructor (PMA-CPT) in March 2013. John and co-owner Matthew Johansen, MPT have tried on their entrepreneurial skills by inventing and selling the Myotool. This self-treatment tool allows one to mobilize their own spinal joints as well as perform many other soft tissue treatment techniques. The self-treatment device has been on the market since 2005 and has seen steady growth. John’s 17 years in Grass Valley has allowed him to grow his private practice from one PT to 8 PT’s and 2 PTA’s and double its size. The steady growth has allowed him to treat a wide variety of clientele. John has taken on a lead role of teaching weekend intensive continuing education courses for EIM since 2013.
