Dr. Johanna Gabbard

Dr. Gabbard has served on faculty as Adjunct Professor at the US Army-Baylor University Doctorate Program in Physical Therapy since 2008.  She lives in Ventura, CA and currently works for Kaiser Permanente Southern California as a Clinical Specialist.  She was co-founder and senior faculty for the Kaiser Permanente Fellowship Program in Orthopedic Manual Therapy and Musculoskeletal Primary Care Physical Therapy from 2001 to 2008.  Her primary areas of instruction are in orthopaedics, manual therapy, advanced interventions with emphasis on integrating advanced manual therapy techniques with functional movement and exercise for the spine and extremities. Dr Gabbard is a Fellow in the AmericanAcademy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy and certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders from California State University in Long Beach in 1982, and her entry-level Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Baylor University in 1985. She completed the Kaiser Permanente Hayward Residency Program in Advanced Orthopedic Manual Therapy in 1993 and completed her Doctoral degree in 2007 from Baylor University. She has taught numerous continuing education courses in manual therapy of the spine and extremities for Physical Therapists in California, the Department of Defense both in the United States, Europe and Asia. She is currently working with Kaiser in Sourthern California to try and expand Physical Therapists role as musculoskeletal consultants in primary care settings.
